Christine and Dan’s Proposal Story

Vaughn & Angie’s Proposal Story
Hi Jeff here is our proposal story…
Engaged August 21st, 2010. Angie & I had been dating two and a half years and she’s always made it clear she wasn’t on a “5 year plan”
I knew I’d be proposing but with our schedules so full timing was key. She works 2 jobs and was taking classes at night so I wanted to wait until that was done. Being the traditional type I asked her parents permission a few days ahead of time.
That Saturday morning, August 21st I took her out for a little hike to some waterfalls outside of town. I’m a photo-buff, her not-so much but she was a good sport that whole morning. After getting her in the right spot near the falls I got down on one knee and proposed and she said yes! We never really had a “spot” to call our own and now we do. When we got back to Barrie she walked into our house to a big “Surprise!” Close family and friends were there to celebrate with her, some from as far away as Kingston and even BC.
We’re in the middle of planning our beach wedding down in the Caribbean which is pretty exciting, wedding bands are next of the list!

I’d like to share my proposal story when Andrew proposed to me on May 28, 2010!
We had been ring shopping at Jeff Walters earlier so I knew that a proposal was in the future, I suspected that it would be our trip we were taking in July to New York City where we met 5 years prior. We live slightly out of town and with only 1 vehicle between the two of us, we always drive in to work together, I work 8:30 – 4:30 and he works 10:00 – 6:30. It was a typical Friday – he dropped me off at work and then at the end of the day I’d take a city bus to get the car or just wait for him in Williams. But this Friday was different, he was at my office picking me up, and also not wearing his work clothes. I thought he had gotten sick and took the day off. I hopped in the car and asked him what was up and he said I’m taking you on a date. I kept asking him where but his lips were sealed. I kept complaining saying that I wish I knew so that I could have dressed a little nicer and had my makeup to refresh and he just kept saying don’t worry about that, you look fine. So, we are driving along heading towards Toronto and I just kept saying I wanted to change and do my makeup so he told me that he had packed me some extra clothes and makeup – so not like him to be so prepared.
As we got into Toronto, he asked me to close my eyes – which is a very difficult thing for me to do! When he told me to open my eyes, to my surprise, we were at the Royal York, a hotel I said I’d always wanted to stay in. I still had no idea what was in store. So we went up to our room, I took a quick shower and off we went to the CN Tower. We had so much fun walking there laughing and just enjoying each others company. We made it up to the Observation Deck and we were looking right over Lake Ontario (at sunset, of course because I had to shower! Perfect timing!!) and I was enjoying the view and I felt a tug on my pants, looked down and saw him on bended knee proposing to me! All I could do was nod my head YES! My jaw dropped and I started tearing up! I was shaking with excitement and hugging him and wouldn’t let him go!! The first thing that popped out of my mouth was “It’s kind of small”… of course, my head was doing 1000 thoughts per second.. I meant the size was a bit snug, but he thought I meant the diamond! Poor Andrew! The look on his face was so devastating.. I felt horrible for saying that – but he knew what I meant shortly afterwards!
It was so neat to be able to call my parents, his parents and siblings to tell them that I was on top of the CN Tower and just got proposed to! My favorite part though is the fact that he drove three hours home to talk to my mom, my dad and his parents and ask for their blessings!
We then walked back and had some dinner at an amazing pub in Toronto. It was the best way he could have possibly proposed, nothing over the top and was very relaxed and just “us”.
Thank you so much for your expertise and experience and making this proposal the best one I could possibly ask for!

Chris and Christina’s Proposal Story
It all started 2 years ago, in the old town house complex my children and I were living in….My neighbor had been bugging me about wanting to set me up with his best friend (Chris) who’d seen me quite often out shoveling and playing with my children in our joined front yard. I kept telling my neighbor I really was flattered with Chris’ interest but not in a position to begin a relationship with anyone. I honestly felt like after the last long term relationship I’d been in that fell apart 2 yrs before and with having four children it probably wasn’t likely anyone would be interested to begin with. So his interest in me took me both by surprise and made me nervous about starting again and having to go through it ending. Not a very positive outlook I know!
Anyways, a few weeks went by and my neighbor kept on me about how great this Chris guy would be for me and my children. He had a good job, was responsible, lived on his own etc….. Finally in the beginning of May I agreed to go out with him. May 16th, 2008 we went to the movies for our first date. We saw Iron Man. The movie was great, but the date was uncomfortable and felt forced (on my part). We ended the night with my agreeing to see him again, just not sure when. I really wasn’t sure if he was the guy for me anyways. I am a hopeless romantic who thought that sparks would fly and fireworks appear when I met “the one”. I just wasn’t feeling it. But, my neighbor was right; Chris was a decent, genuinely good guy. I felt bad.
We continued spending short periods of time together after our first date, but it was clear from the beginning I was only looking for a friend. He was upset, but respected my wishes. We continued on like this for a while, until one day I realized there may not have been sparks or fireworks like girls grow up thinking they’ll feel but there was something there!
Just this past Christmas everything just seemed to fall into place & I realized he is “the one”. This is when we began thinking of getting married.
I have spent the past month or so pointing out simple design engagement rings every time we’re out. I kept thinking he was hesitating not only for financial reasons but that maybe he wasn’t sure what to buy me. After all, I will wear it for life, I should at the very least like it….
Well, my Maid of Honor spent the day at our house on Friday, May 7th. Chris had been planning our 2 nd date all week long. Seriously, it really was going to be our technical second date! I know, it’s sad.
I wasn’t feeling very well, I hadn’t slept well Thursday night and had spent all day Friday making two Mothers Day cakes. (it’s my passion-outside of being a mother) He had arranged for his Mom to babysit for us, and all day kept reminding me he was taking me to the movies. It seemed fitting that our 2 nd date was falling on the day Iron Man 2 came out, and also marking one year until our set wedding date. He came home after work still pushing that we try to make it to the movies. I just didn’t want to go!
So at 8pm his Mom came to babysit and we left. I had decided instead of the show we’d just go up to Williams in the south end for some dessert and coffee. It was pouring rain, cold and windy. I kept telling him I would much rather be at home in bed. He and I drove around in silence for quite some time before finally pulling into Walmart. I decided at the very least we could shop a little for socks, mascara, and look for flip flops. I had by then also decided I didn’t feel up to coffee either. So 10 pm Friday night we were in Walmart. I took another opportunity to point out family rings (I’ve wanted one for quite sometime) and they also sell engagement/wedding bands. I would never buy one there, but thought again I should point out the style I liked. Little did I know, tucked in his pocket was the beautiful ring he’d picked up from you just a few hours earlier! We walked out into the rain just before 11pm and I got into our van. I should have known something was up at this point because Chris walked around to the driver side (my side) to put our bags full of socks, mascara, flips flops and chocolate in. He just stood there, closed the sliding door and knealt down on the puddled grass and said “Christina, can you look at me” I didn’t know what he was trying to do and proceeded to start the van. He repeated himself to me again saying ” Just look at me please….” So finally I did. And he held out the dark velvet book opened showing off the most perfect ring I’ve ever seen!
Now all of this happening in the Walmart parking lot was most definitely not how he’d planned it at all, but it was still the best 2 nd date I’ll ever have gone on!
I wanted to Thank You all for making it all possible with your impecable taste, Shane’s help in Chris choosing and craftsmanship. I couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait to see what the matching custom band will look like!

Brendan and Patty’s Story
Hi Jeff,
My beautiful bride to be has finally documented our story for your Facebook page, so here it is!
Brendan and Patty’s story:
Brendan and I have known each other since high school, we had a few classes together, but never really became more than acquaintances during those years. We both went our separate ways onto university, both of us always coming back home (to Barrie) during the summer months. One summer home we found ourselves hanging out a lot together with two of our best friends (who happened to be dating)…One thing led to another and Brendan and I found ourselves having a hard time saying goodbye to each other that summer before the next fall school semester.
That was nearly 5 years ago. Brendan and I have been together ever since, we both finished our schooling (him in Real Estate and I in Teaching) and we decided to move back to Barrie to start our “grown-up” lives together in our very own home. Newly in real estate Brendan loved to celebrate any “firm-deals” he had on homes he sold by bringing me home flowers. At first our tiny basement apartment was sort of sparse, a little potted plant here and there, but now as I look around I find the task of watering all our plants happily daunting, this has been a tradition that I love and especially now will always find meaningful.
The week that we were getting the keys to our new home was hectic and tiring and a surprise engagement was the last thing on my mind. But, one night after school I was relaxing on the bed, just checking some emails and I hear Brendan call downstairs to say that he’s home, then he says “close you’re eye’s I have a surprise for you!!” I closed my eyes excitedly thinking that I’d get some more pretty flowers…he must have sold another house. I even hear Brendan scurrying around and I hear the crunch of the plastic wrap around the flowers, all the while Brendan’s saying “keep them closed, no peaking..” Then he says “okay, open!” I opened my eyes to see Brendan kneeling beside the bed on one knee with a ring box open…all he says is “will you marry me?” I was so shocked! It was simple, perfect and totally by surprise, and he did keep with the tradition and bring me flowers to boot! …. And of course I said yes! We got engaged and moved into our new home all in the same week, it was perfect!
Thank you Jeff for all of the assistance you gave Brendan. He told me he really enjoyed the experience of designing my ring with you, and I think it’s absolutely perfect!
We’re looking forward to coming in together and finding our wedding bands in the months to come!
Sincerely,
Patricia Cotton and Brendan Clemmens
